I've recently acquired the Seasons expansion for The Sims 2, and if you've been paying attention, then that should explain why it's been quiet here lately. Before buying the expansion I had taken an almost-three-month hiatus from playing the game. And I didn't mind that. I think I needed a break from it to help me to appreciate it again. But now that I've picked it up again... well, now I've got the fever, BAD, and I've got a lot of time to make up for. So don't be surprised if it stays quiet around here a bit longer.
I haven't even begun to explore the new gameplay elements introduced by Seasons. Right now I'm just enjoying the new weather effects, which by themselves are well worth the cost of the pack, to me anyway. It's rather ironic, really. Before this expansion, Sims lived in a world with never-changing, perfect weather. It was always sunny, and some sort of magically perfect temperature where they could wear any type of clothing and be perfectly comfortable. And that's the type of climate I have always dreamed of living in. I hate the cold, hate the rain (unless it comes with a reasonably entertaining thunderstorm), hate snow and ice, and hate oppressive heat and humidity. Yet, those very same weather effects that I despise in real life are the ones I'm thrilled to have in my game. Go figure.
So now the Sims have four seasons, each with their own weather effects. I'm currently experiencing spring, with its fluctuating temperatures, rain, and some pretty impressive thunderstorms. The very first time I heard thunder in the game, I nearly jumped out of my seat. And on one lot, I had lightning strike a tree in the backyard and set it on fire! Sims now have personal thermometers one must keep an eye on to ensure that they are comfortable. If they get too cold and stay that way for too long, they can freeze to death. And on the other side of that spectrum... spontaneous human combustion! I'm almost tempted to do that one on purpose just to see it...
