Despite the Americans with Disabilities Act requiring businesses to admit service animals even when pets are otherwise banned, many people with these animals still encounter resistance on a daily basis. The city of Evanston, Illinois is attempting to improve the situation with new service animal identification tags. Businesses must admit animals wearing these tags, no questions asked.
In the past decade, veterinarians have begun treating destructive and neurotic behavior in pets with Prozac and other human antidepressants. Many of these veterinarians insist they are not trying to take the easy way out. They say they always work to rule out physical causes for the animals' actions first, and prefer to use behavior modification therapies instead of or along with the drugs.
