What is it about supermarkets - or sales in general - that bring out the worst in people?
We were doing our weekly grocery shopping today, hunting around for things in the neighborhood market's brand new building (which of course has to be laid out completely different than the old building...), and we needed ground tomatoes for pasta sauce. We found the right aisle and began looking for the right item, when I spotted them on a lower shelf and said to Chris, "Pastene ground peeled, kitchen ready, right there." There was a man bent over in front of them, shuffling through items on the shelf, so we waited patiently for him to finish. And he proceeded to gather every single can of Pastene ground peeled tomatoes on the shelf and dump them in his cart.
Okay, so when something is on sale, especially a canned item that will last forever, it makes sense to stock up. But when there are people standing right there who are obviously looking for the same item, would it kill you to leave one can?
As we turned to go find the watery-pasta-sauce-in-a-jar aisle, I simply exclaimed, loud enough for the bogart to hear, "How frickin' rude!" And I hope he did hear me.
