I'm attending three weddings this year, so I need to find some new dresses. I always have a really hard time finding dresses that work for me and are flattering, and usually end up running out of time and settling for some old frumpy church lady dress. I really don't want that this time, so even though I haven't yet lost all of the weight I plan to lose, I decided to go ahead and start searching now for at least one perfect dress.
The hunt isn't off to a good start. Since two of the three weddings are in the middle of the summer, I'm thinking a fun, bare-shouldered sundress. I saw a commercial for Old Navy's "Town Gowns" and thought they looked promising, so after work yesterday I went to check them out. I picked out two to take home and try on (entering a store dressing room with Chris tends to draw some funny looks so we just avoid it): a black halter-style (ties behind the neck), and a purple one with adjustable spaghetti straps (which I would have had to have someone detach and cross in the back so they would stay on my extremely narrow, muscle-less shoulders). What I found when I tried them on is that these dresses are not for flat-chested ladies like myself, and they are so low cut that I wouldn't even be able to hide a padded strapless bra inside.
On the off chance there are any fashion gurus reading this, what should I be looking for? I'm leaning towards the halter-style dresses to avoid the narrow shoulder issue, but I need a style that is going to make it look like I have at least a little something on my chest... ideally something that I can wear a strapless bra with.
