When it comes to baseball and football, the only sports I really care about, I'm a fan of the New England teams. Not everyone here is. I understand loyalty to a distant team when you have some sort of roots in that place, even if it goes back a few generations. I have no loyalty to Pacific Northwest teams because my interest in sports didn't start until I was already living in Rhode Island. But if it had begun earlier, and/or if my parents had had any interest and loyalty to any particular team that they then passed on to me, then I probably would not have switched teams just because I moved. So if you're a Yankees fan in New England because you're originally from New York, or your dad or your grandfather was, I get that.
But, if you are a fan of a team from some other place to which you have no connection, simply because they win more than the home team, well that makes you nothing but a traitor and a sore loser. And if you spend all your time making fun of your friends and neighbors who stay loyal to their home team through thick and thin, because your team kicked our team's butt, then you're a douchebag, too.
Just my opinion.
Just remember how much sweeter it is for us when we do win, especially after a long losing streak, and that you'll never get to experience that kind of high.
