really random
Canucklehead tagged me for this meme a week ago, and it has taken me a while, but I think I'm ready to tackle it.
The rules:
- Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
- People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own eight random things, and post these rules.
- At the end of your post you need to tag eight people and include their names.
- Don't forget to leave them a comment and tell them they've been tagged, and to read your blog.
The reason it has taken me so long (and the reason I cringed when I saw I'd been tagged) is that I'm finding it extremely difficult to think of eight whole random facts about myself that the people who read this blog would not already know. Even more so because most of my readers are family and friends who have known me most of my life. Even as I write these opening paragraphs, I still don't know what my eight facts are going to be. But I'm going to surf through others' responses, and hope that I get inspired. I will not guarantee that all eight facts will be news to the above-mentioned people (friends and family).
- My methods of computer input vary, and some of them may be considered unorthodox. I use my mouse with my foot (not a special mouse designed for such use, just a plain old ordinary wireless optical mouse). I type most of the time, with my keyboard on my lap, but only use three of my fingers - the index and middle fingers on my right hand, and the ring finger on my left. Still, I have been known to type upwards of 50 to 60 wpm. And occasionally, I break out the speech recognition, as I have done for this post, because I have a sleeping Chihuahua on my lap and no room for a keyboard. (But I will have to add my links and formatting by hand, as I have yet to master spoken HTML!)
- As a child I was one of the world's pickiest eaters. It drove my mother insane. But now, I eat all kinds of things that I wouldn't have touched back then, even things Mom won't eat. Some of them include: calamari (hence, my remark on Twitter the other day regarding tentacles), various sauces containing horseradish, and my favorite one to gross people out with... sushi! There are still some foods I absolutely cannot stand and never will, but there is probably at least one thing in every ethnic category that I will eat.
- I was once a poster child for the March of Dimes. I have mixed feelings on this. Of course, at the time I didn't understand what it was all about. I was just a local celebrity, and I got to be on the radio and in the newspaper a lot. In time, I began to find the organization's stated mission of "preventing birth defects" a bit insulting, and even more when I began to understand the definition of a "poster child". They were plastering my face all over their posters, literature, and the newspaper as an example of what they were trying to prevent. Since I've never seen myself as "defective", this pisses me off. However, in recent years the March of Dimes has shifted their focus toward preventing premature birth and reducing infant death rates, and I have to give them credit for that.
- My astrological sign is the crab, but I will no longer proclaim, "I am a Cancer." Having seen the disease steal away far too many of my loved ones and the loved ones of people I care about, I am demanding that the name of the sign for those of us born in late June and early July be changed, and I refuse to claim the sign until such time that it is.
- I have gone wheelchair rollerskating. It was fun.
 - In the first grade, I attended second-grade math and third-grade reading. The following year I moved up to third grade.
- I'm not just right-handed, I'm right-bodied. For every part of my body that there are two of, the right side is stronger and more coordinated... except for my eyes.
- I was selected as a princess for the camp dance my very first year at summer camp, when I was eight years old. The tradition back then was that from the princes and princesses selected one year, a king and queen would be selected the following year. I was to be queen the second year, but was replaced when I got sick and had to go home the day of the dance.
So there you have it. It took me two days... and somehow that sleeping Chihuahua is still on my lap! I'm going to break the rules and not tag anyone, since I can't find eight people to tag. But if you're one of the two people out there who haven't done this already, and you want to play, then consider yourself tagged! Be sure to leave a trackback or a comment linking to your post...
