If you happen to live in northern North Carolina, there's still one more chance to see a free screening of Before The Music Dies, a documentary on the state of the music industry by filmmakers Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussen. The film will be shown at The Garage on Tuesday, January 23 at 8pm.
Some encouraging news for those of us who hate having to jump through ridiculous hoops to get our legally purchased digital music to play where we want to play it, something we have a legal right to do. More consumers are getting mad and making a stand, and the record labels and content providers are starting to listen.
And speaking of digital music, a Malaysian CD maker is planning to open at least 300 music download kiosks in mobile retailers and record stores in Malaysia this year, expanding into China early next year. And, according to a report by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, overall digital music sales doubled in 2006.
