Monday night we went down to O'Rourke's, a little Irish pub around the corner, for dinner. We noticed a flyer on a telephone pole; someone had two missing dogs. Being the pet lover I am, and completely heartbroken for this family that was missing not one, but two beloved pets, I walked over to take a closer look. The dogs' names were Rhody and Chase. Rhody was white with a patch on his eye and looked like possibly a boxer mix, and Chase looked like a German shepherd. We exchanged pouty-lipped glances, went on in to eat, and all but forgot about it.
The next night (last night), when Chris got home from Guys' Christmas Shopping Night, he got out of the car and there was Rhody, right there in our condo parking lot. He tried to get the dog to come to him, but he was too scared. He ran inside and grabbed some Milk Bones, but by the time he got back outside the dog was gone.
After checking with me to see if the dog's description matched what I had seen on the flyer, he drove back down to the corner to get the phone number, called and left a message. The dogs' owner called back a few minutes later, and a few minutes after that, she and her friend were outside the condo. Rhody had reappeared, and they took him home. She didn't mention whether she'd had any luck finding Chase.
Please, if you are ever so fortunate as to spot a pet that you've seen on a missing pet ad, call the owner. If you see a pet that appears to be lost but haven't heard of any missing pets, at least call your local SPCA - they might know who it belongs to. If it were your pet, you would want others to do the same.
