- Masks to help save pets
Losing a pet can be hard enough, but it is especially devastating in conjunction with a trauma such as a house fire. Pets are much more vulnerable to smoke inhalation than humans. To help prevent such tragedy, The Peoples Animal Welfare Society of Tinley Park, Illinois has purchased four sets of specially designed oxygen masks for cats and dogs, to be given to each of the village's four fire stations.
- Homeless Pets Finding Families at Petland Stores Nationwide
According to a new survey, in the last four years, Petland stores' Adopt-A-Pet program has placed more than 114,724 homeless pets. The stores work with animal shelters, pet rescue groups, and members of the community to place accidental litters of puppies and kittens, as well as homeless adult dogs and cats.
- Agility trial to test pets' abilities
If you're looking for some cheap weekend entertainment and happen to live in western North Carolina, check out the AKC agility trial hosted by the Blue Ridge Agility Club. The event is being held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the WNC Agricultural Center's McGough Arena in Fletcher, and admission is free.
- Central Point might give exotic pets the boot
Citizens of Central Point, Oregon may suffer a blow to pet owners' rights if the city council approves a proposed ordinance to ban exotic pets. Those against the new ordinance got a temporary reprieve at last night's council meeting, when the council agreed to consider revising the proposed law in response to a high turnout of residents opposing the restriction.
- Law will save pets in emergencies
In response to the shameful abandonment of tens of thousands of pets by emergency agencies involved in the Hurricane Katrina evacuations, the state of Illinois has recently passed a law requiring its Emergency Management Agency to include pets during emergency evacuations and rescue operations.
