I have one better for you...this happened a couple of months ago here at my job.
I get an automated message at the COURT to see if we would like to save money by reducing the fees charged on our visa machine. At this time I had been answering several calls a week with these automated messages...we can reduce your mortgage rate, blah, blah, blah... I usually just hang up.
This time I decided to press the key for a live person so I could let them know they were calling a Court and to remove our phone number from their list. Here's the conversation:
"Hello from blah, blah, blah company, my name is blah (yeah, I wish I had paid better attention and could have remembered his name! Mistake #1).
"Hi...your autodialer is calling a Court. Please remove our number from your list."
"Do you have a visa machine?"
"Yes, we do. Please take our number off your list."
"What kind of rates are you getting now?"
"I don't know. Please take our number off your list."
"Are you the person who makes decisions for your office?"
"No. Please take our number off your list." (mistake #2...always tell a telemarketer YES..you are the decision-maker) Notice how I have said please FOUR times already?
"Who's in charge of making the decisions?"
"I'm not giving you any information. I just want our number removed from your list."
"Do you have a pen?"
At this point I am pissed...is he going to give me a fricking number to call to get our number off the list?!
Through clenched teeth "Yes".
"Good. Take your pen...and shove it up your A**."
"EXCUSE ME?"
"Take your pen...and shove it up your A**."
Now, I can't believe I actually had him repeat it to me...I was in shock. But what really gets me is that the best response I had was to hang up. That's it. I couldn't come up with anything better than that. This is the point where I recognize Mistake #1 about not paying attention to his name. I have no idea who just instructed me to probe myself. A good come back would have been "Nice...remember when I told you this was a Court? This call was recorded BLAH (insert name) so do you want to save me some time and transfer me to your supervisor now or should I just track them down on my own?" The call wasn't recorded and it would have been a completely idle threat...but I bet he would have been messing his drawers all afternoon wondering if it was true.
Now that I am prepared this scenario of course will never come up again.

Ive had simalar things like that happen to me. I work for a salon/health spa and I swear I get the most stupidest people and the automated calls are very annoying..
I don't remember any of the phone calls having worked there for about a year now... I just remember telling someone that 'this is a salon... (I was on the salon phone) we don't need a free 10 lb. turkey, if we did what where we gonna do with it? Give it a wash, dry and a free wax or set it in the tanning bed until it was red as hell?? (I was annoyed)'
I ended up hangin up and thn spent the rest of the laughing my ass off. My boss thought it was funny too... TG
