It's unheard of for me to go this far into a winter before getting sick, and apparently the catch is that now I get to experience the most drawn-out, oddly fluctuating sinus/respiratory illness of my life. When it started out, it was just sinus pain and a sore throat, and I thought that the medications I take daily for my allergies were actually suppressing any nasal congestion from developing. That theory went out the window last Friday when my nose started running so uncontrollably that I had a difficult time getting any work done for how often I had to stop and blow or wipe it. Over the weekend I got really stuffed up, and I actually spent about 24 hours straight on my loveseat at home. I stayed there overnight, because lying flat in bed made me feel like I was going to suffocate.
By Monday, the congestion was breaking up, I could blow my nose productively, and I had developed a cough which sounded horrible but I was feeling better (once I was sure that the intermittent heartburn was just heartburn, and not chest pain indicating pneumonia). Apart from the extreme hot/cold flashes (seriously, you'd have thought I was menopausal), I continued to feel better throughout most of this week. That is, until yesterday. The sinus pain was worse, and my nose blowing was becoming less productive again. I blamed it on the fact that I forgot to bring more decongestant from home, but I remembered the medicine today and still feel worse. At this point I'm having a serious discussion with myself over whether I want to go out tonight, and expecting another highly immobile weekend. It's too bad we yet again failed to get the Netflix movies in the mail in time to have new ones for the weekend, but at least we have a lot to catch up with on TiVo.
