I have my iPhone! No, I didn't raise all that money already. I received my economic stimulus rebate last week, so I used that as a sort of advance so that I could write a check to our friend who sold the phone to me (for $100 less than retail). I still plan to make it all back to pay on our credit cards, which was our original intention for the rebates.
For my friends and family who call me, never fear. Thanks to local number portability, you don't have to learn yet another new number. We are shutting off our home phone, and that number will now be my cell phone number. The transfer takes some time, though, so for the time being I can make calls on my iPhone, but incoming calls still only ring at the house. AT&T has told me that the switch-over should take place next Monday. I was actually a little bit surprised that they didn't assign a temporary number just so I could receive calls in the meantime.
Since Chris has an iPhone as well, the challenge now is making it so we can tell them apart without having to turn the screens on and look at the wallpapers. So I've ordered a silicone "skin" case for mine from eBay. It's supposed to be purple, but in the picture it looked more pink to me. But we'll see. I can live with pink. It should also give me a bit more grip on the phone, which is good since I have dropped Chris' a few times. I'm also getting a holster-type case for it, in purple of course, so that I can carry it on my hip. Combine that with the Bluetooth headset and I should be able to at least receive calls hands-free.
