Brooskey got his first official "Springer cut" today. I almost wanted to cry when I saw him; he doesn't even look like the same dog. All that fluffy, curly hair on his back... gone! The harness he's wearing in the pictures - the one hanging sideways because it's so loose? It fit him yesterday. But he really does look so handsome, and he's going to be a lot more comfortable outside at the dog park now, as the temperature rises.
While Brooskey was at the groomers', we took Vixen with us up to Nana & Papa's house to help them with yard work, and Vixen made some awesome progress in conquering her crippling fear of being outside. We were outside all day (and I should have worn sunscreen). She spent the first couple of hours either hiding underneath the chair I was sitting in, or begging me to pick her up. But after a while, she started getting curious and checking things out. I held her leash and let her go wherever she wanted, as long as it was on the grass and not in the middle of any of the projects going on. Pretty soon, the tail came out from between her legs, she started prancing around like she owned the place, and she even started guarding it from the evil neighborhood kids riding bikes and playing catch in the street (and from Nana, too, but hey, puppyhood can be confusing!). Of course, she still has yet to actually relieve herself outside, but hopefully now that she's no longer terrified of grass, that will come soon.
It was an exhausting day for both of them, and they both passed out on the way home... Vixen fighting it the whole way by holding her head up as she slept. Oh, and today was also the first time Vixen has ever survived two car rides in a row without getting carsick! Go Vixen!
And go, clean and handsome Brooskey!
See? I'm a mommyblogger, too. My kids just happen to have four legs!
