It's very rare that I post anything political here. That said, I cannot believe that even now, with the election over, people are still spouting the same, tired, false information about Barack Obama that has been disproven time and time again. Before Election Day, I figured it was just an attempt to scare the uninformed out of voting for him. But now that the election is over, Obama has won the presidency, and it's too late to change that, why are people still spouting this garbage? How have they completely missed all of the news coverage showing that these claims are false?
Yes, Barack Obama is a natural-born citizen of the United States. Pathetic claims to the contrary cite convoluted rules regarding his mother not having lived in the US long enough after her sixteenth birthday. That might matter if he was born outside of the country. But in actuality, the citizenship of his parents is irrelevant because he was born in the United States. Everyone born inside of this country's borders is a natural-born citizen regardless of the parents' citizenship status. The other claim is that he was not born in the US because Hawaii was not a state yet at the time of his birth. This is simply false. Hawaii became a state two years before Obama's birth.
Barack Obama is not a Muslim. He is more active in his Christian church than McCain is in his. And, as Colin Powell so eloquently pointed out:
But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America.
Mr. Obama also does not "refuse" to recite the Pledge of Allegiance or to put his hand over his heart during the national anthem. Please see this Snopes article which addresses all of this, and pay close attention to the photos and videos which show him participating in these customs. Yes, there was one incident in which he did not have his hand over his heart during the national anthem, which is what sparked this rumor, and the explanation for that is not clear. But it is one incident, and hardly constitutes a refusal.
I am so sick of hearing all of this garbage that I actually put my own grandfather's e-mails on auto-delete several months ago. I was considering removing the filter now that the election is over, until I realized that these bigots are still spreading this nonsense even now (and no, I will not do these creeps the favor of linking to them). I just might have to leave him on my delete list for the next four years until President Obama's first term is over and the country is still standing, and all of these hatemongers begin to feel like fools.
