In a few weeks I'll be taking a vacation to go visit my family in Oregon. While I miss them and love going to see them (especially my little niece and nephews, some of whom admittedly are not so little anymore), it's always a hard decision every year whether to spend my limited vacation time there, or on a more... vacationy vacation. Two years ago I was lucky enough to be able to do both, and for our "getaway" vacation we went to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
I fell in love with Disney World and with Florida in general, and ever since then have been dying to go back. Maybe next time, instead of staying on a Disney resort, we'll stay in Kissimmee. We can still visit Disney World, and there are a lot more things in the area to see. I know Chris wants to go to Universal Studios, also in Orlando, and I'm sure he'd like to go golfing, too. While he's golfing, I could go shopping in one of Kissimmee's many malls and outlet centers, or just relax by the pool in our hotel.
Our last trip was in the dead heat of August, and although it was not as unbearable as I expected, I definitely would like to go when it's a little bit cooler next time. But not too cool - there's a reason people go to Florida, you know. I'd probably choose to go in late spring or early fall. Disney World has a couple of October events I'd be interested in seeing.
Am I making you crave your own Kissimmee vacation yet? You may be in luck - it just so happens that the Kissimmee Visitors Bureau is holding a sweepstakes to give away a six-night vacation for four including air and car rental, or they'll even pay for the trip you're already planning! I'm entering, so if I win I guess I will have to negotiate some extra vacation time from my boss!
