Well, here it is, the final linkworthy roundup before I start posting these things individually as I find them.
Disabled dog honoured for rescue
from Nothing To Do With Arbroath
This sweet little dog, who has leg and brain injuries from abuse by a previous owner, was out walking on the beach with his new owner when he spotted a drowning spaniel. Despite his brain damage, he knew the other dog was in trouble and rushed out to save it.
You're Not Welcome but Please Buy Tickets
from Disability Nation
The University of Michigan has fought tooth and nail against being required to come into compliance with the ADA's minimum accessible seating requirements in its stadium. After settling a lawsuit, in which they made a cash settlement but still did not come into compliance with the law, the university is using declining ticket sales for the accessible seats they do have, to further support their arguments that accessible seating is not needed. Too bad they don't get that no one is going to be willing to give them their business after being sent so clear a message that they're not wanted.
What Can I Do About ZT?
from Randy at This Is True
Zero tolerance policies in schools and elsewhere have long been a target of Randy's criticism. The whole purpose of these policies is so that those in charge don't have to make judgments on a case by case basis; they can just slap a one-size-fits-all policy on there, and then no one can complain that they made the wrong decision because they were just following the rules, right? Except, there are complaints, because zero tolerance policies cause the wrong decision to be made all the time. This little excerpt from Randy's latest rant hits the nail on the head, and had me applauding out loud: "The school principal just wants to follow policies and not 'make a decision'? Fine: then lobby for the principal's salary to be cut in half: the reason s/he gets paid so much is because they supposedly have the knowledge, education and experience needed to make hard decisions. Can't/won't make them? Then they're paid too much!"
Taking Over Music Formats, One MT9 At A Time
from Joshua at InventorSpot
MT9 is a new digital music format aiming to replace the MP3. What's really cool about this format is that it splits the audio into six different channels for vocals, guitar, bass, etc. The listener can then control each of these channels individually. For example, mute the vocal track... instant karaoke!
