are you really, really smart?

Do you think you're one of the smartest people in the US? If you are, you could win a 15" Apple MacBook by entering the Smartest of the US IQ contest. Register, then complete a thirty-minute, fifty-question IQ test for your first entry (tips: make sure you have thirty minutes of uninterrupted time, and turn off your ad blockers). You earn additional testing sessions by inviting your friends. The top scorer each month will go on to the grand prize competition early next year, which is a one-hour, 100-question test.

I took my initial test this past weekend, and to my great surprise, considering some of the questions made me feel so stupid, scored in the highest possible range. Were this simply a "free IQ test" I came across on a Google ad, I would not have given it a second look. But this is not just a free IQ test designed to collect e-mail addresses; it is an actual year-long competition which concludes next January, and I found it through a contest-related blog I trust. They have a thorough privacy policy which states that information will only be shared with contest sponsors for the purpose of carrying out the contest, and sending participants relevant content only upon opt-in, which in my book is perfectly acceptable.

Unlike the site you refer to, I was given my score immediately upon completing the test, and am able to log in to my profile at any time to see my real time rankings for both the current month and the year (eek, I just slipped into second place!). Just because one IQ test site turns out to be spam harvesting bait does NOT mean that they should all be lumped into the same category.

Cool: I'm not only glad you checked it out first, I'm really glad to know it's not one of the same slimy outfits that I've been blocking from my ads. Privacy policies matter! Carry on.
